I don’t see anything wrong with “confident trust,” especially in view of the contrast with “fear.”

Thanks for the encouragement. I”m glad you are coming along. How do you like the readings from Barth? I’m finding the syntax sometimes difficult.

Mark, I posted earlier this summer, saying that I was getting started in German. Well several months later and I’m getting pretty comfortable with it.

Thanks for the work you do with this website. It’s very helpful.

In this reading, could Vertrauen be translated “confident trust”?

Vertraun = das Vertrauen, trust, faith. From W’s notebooks, where I assume he spelled the word according to the colloquial pronunciation.

I think that the “t” in “regist” is a typo; it should be “regis.”

“But I don’t think (the work) is Solomon’s, but (that it was) written later under that king’s name adduced as if in contrition. I take as evidence for this (view) the numerous words found only in Daniel, Esdras and the Chaldean translators.”

However, I do not think that this is from Solomon, but it has been written later under the name of that king, as if he’d had to do penance. I get this from the many words that I cannot find elsewhere than in Daniel, Ezra, and the Babylonian translators (Talmud Bavli?)

Here is a rough translation:

But I do not consider it [the book of Qohelet] to be of Solomon, but written under the name of that King who was led to repentance (?)
In support of this argument, I have many words which are not found elsewhere [in the Hebrew Bible] except in Daniel and Ezra and which are clarified by a Chaldean [i.e. Aramaic] interpretation.

[I"m guessing 'regist' is a typo for regis.]
