Now that we have finished the Moltmann interview, we will be getting back to Bonhoeffer’s letters. For those trying to learn the language, I recommend reviewing the Moltmann posts and vocabulary, then going to the Radio Vatican site (here). The text is displayed, and you can click on the sound icon and hear the audio. Follow along in the text while you listen to the interview. It is about twenty minutes long.
The first Bonhoeffer letter is a Christmas letter to his parents written December 17, 1943. At this point he has been “detained” (as the euphemism goes) for several months without any formal charges being placed. He believes they are holding him on suspicion of relatively minor charges and has expected to be released before Christmas. By the time he writes this letter he has given up hope of spending Christmas at home.
